Two easy nutri-bullet smoothies

 For Christmas, my mom bought a Nutri Bullet as a "family gift." Really, though, I'm the only one who uses it. I think it's absolutely wonderful. Basically, it's a really powerful blender/juicer combination for frozen fruits, vegetables, etc. 

A lot of people use Nutri Bullets for green smoothies, which generally include a leafy vegetable (spinach, kale), whatever other fruits and vegetables you want, and a "boost" like seeds or nuts. 

Anyways, since (when I'm at my mom's house) I have a smoothie pretty much whenever I'm not eating eggs (if you read my earlier post, you'll know I really like eggs), I thought I'd share my favorites. The first is a "green smoothie" because it has kale (hence the color) and the other is just your typical fruit-colored smoothie, specifically of the strawberry-banana variety. 

note: With a nutri bullet, you often don't use exact measurements. You just kind of throw stuff in until it reaches the "max" line (yielding a 12-16 ounce smoothie). Also, don't let your liquid (water, milk) surpass the "max" line. Other than that, you just put in amounts that seem reasonable. You can totally make these smoothies with a regular blender, too, as long as it can handle frozen fruit.

 Tropical green smoothie 

veggie: kale   ✩   fruit: frozen banana, frozen mango   ✩   
boost: raw cashews   ✩   liquid: water, squeeze of lemon

Why this smoothie is great: It feels really healthy because it's green, but it just tastes like mango, which is delicious. That's pretty much it. 


 Strawberry & banana 

no veggie  ✩   instead: vanilla yogurt   ✩   fruit: frozen strawberries, frozen banana  
✩   boost: chia seeds and cacao nibs   ✩    liquid: milk of choice, a tad of vanilla 

Why it's great: Lots & lots of calcium. Also, chia seeds are basically little nutrient bombs, apparently. They are high in antioxidants and omega-3s and many other healthy things. Cacao nibs also have a lot of fiber and antioxidants and iron, so that's a plus.

  2. I love smoothies! I love chia seeds! I dislike cows milk but there are so many delicious alternatives out there now (almond/coconut milk oh my!) Your photos are beautiful
